I was raised in Blackstone and attended Shiloh Baptist Church on Brown Street. I am very proud to say that I attended this church. My dad has repaired/rebuild many areas of this church. He sang in the choir and worked as the trustee of the church for many years of his life. I learned to sing in the choir under the direction of Mrs. Mildred Florence and Cousin Andrew Black. I remember today how to and when not to carry notes. I even can tell the beats of how a song should be sung. We, as children, were not allowed to say whether we wanted to attend church. I am so thankful for that! Those were the good ole days!
When I moved away from home, I searched for a church that had the same spiritual characteristics as Shiloh. It was a hard decision, but I did find another home church, Shiloh New Site Baptist Church, Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, VA; Pastor Anthony Parrish.
Many changes have taken place in churches since I was a little girl, but I must say that the 'pillars' of our churches.....they are the foundation. Every church should have them and the leaders should listen, too. "I am speaking about the elderly members who have paved the way for the younger leaders." I know that change is difficult, but it is important not to stray too far from our beginning.
Praises be to Shiloh! God bless the membership and its leaders!Added July 17, 2017 by A Google User
